Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports
Rome, Italy
Rome's airport system includes "Leonardo da Vinci" hub in Fiumicino and "G.B. Pastine" hub in Ciampino. Rome Fiumicino airport, inaugurated in 1961, is the main Italian hub for international and intercontinental scheduled and charter traffic, an ever-developing structure, adapting to the mobility increase. Located 32 km away from Rome’s city center, in the municipality of Fiumicino, it counts over 43 million passengers every year. Rome Ciampino airport, just 15 km away from the capital’s city center, is mainly dedicated to point to point passenger traffic, private and state air travel, humanitarian and military flights. In 2019 it served a total of about 6 million passengers.
For the ambitious project of integrated parking management serving Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, the company ParkIt, in charge of the work, selected Nice systems for access control automation.
The project consists in the automated management of 52 parking areas for a total of 22,000 parking spaces, accessible through 190 entrance and exit gates equipped with license plate reading system.
